Spring is fast approaching which means nice weather for the Houston Area! Take advantage while it lasts by planning a visit to the best parks Houston has to offer. Here are eight Houston Area Parks every child should visit!

Hermann Park

Located in the Heart of Houston, Hermann Park is a 445-acre urban public park designed to bring families and communities together. It offers many attractions and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, from riding a train along the Hermann Park Railroad, enjoying playtime at the Buddy Carruth Playground, hopping on a pedaling boat on the McGovern Lake, to walking peacefully at the Japanese Garden, jogging along the trails, and sitting down on a picnic blanket for lunch, this park guarantees a wholesome experience for any age group!

Buffalo Bayou Park

A 160-acre park located west of downtown Houston. It is famous for its bike and hike trails, beautiful gardens, and paddle and bike rentals. It is also home to the Johnny Steele Dog Park, the Daniel Nature Play area and Picnic Pavilion, and the Eleanor Tinsley Park. This multi-purpose park is designed to inspire a love for nature and outdoor adventure for the whole family!

Discovery Green

This busy park is located in downtown Houston. Its 12-acres host many outdoor facilities that guarantee a fun day in the outdoors. Through green areas and trails, the whole family can admire the beautiful city landscape, sit on the lawn for a picnic or enjoy one of the scheduled performances or events programmed regularly. The John P. McGovern Playground near the Gateway Fountain are awesome options to entertain little ones. Depending on the season the Park also offers ice skating or kayak rides on Kinder Lake. Whatever the activity, the park is a hidden gem to enjoy the outdoors in the middle of the city!

Donovan Park

Also known as The Heights Playground, this park hosts an amazing wooden playground that stimulates children’s imagination. Its different green areas and incredible play structures offer children the opportunity to create their own scenarios for pretend play and enjoy for hours. Take a walk around its trails and enjoy beautiful landscaping!

Levy Park

Levy Park is an oasis located in the Upper Kirby District of Houston and offers 6-acres of open space to experience the outdoors. Its grounds host picnic areas, a dog park, beautiful landscaping, and a fun and inviting play area for children. The park also hosts year-round programming and events targeting wellness, education, arts, and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy!

Exploration Park

Located in the Cinco Ranch neighborhood at Katy, TX, this immersive and educational playground is designed to teach children environmental awareness through hands-on experiences. Water conservation is the main subject! The park has a covered area with picnic tables and offers sensory play areas, interactive features, and appealing play structures that guarantee a fun and enriching day for children!

Mary Jo Peckham Park

This park offers a wide variety of activities on its 32-acres. Located in Katy, TX, Mary Jo Peckham Park guarantees a full day of fun for all the family! Enjoy the miniature golf course and putting green for little golf enthusiasts. A disc golf course is also available for those who love a challenge. Try your fishing skills or burn some energy at the trails and playground. A community center and a swimming pool, along with picnic tables and a pavilion complement this multi-purpose park.

Zube Park

A little far from the city, located in Hockey, TX, this park is host to the Houston Area Live Steamer Association offering free public run days over the weekends(wheater permitting). The park also features a disc golf course, soccer fields, exercise stations, and playground and splash pad areas for children. Walking trails, a waterfall, and a river bed are the perfect complement to enjoy the outdoors. Grab a blanket and a picnic basket to stay all day, it is worth the ride!
